Q&A Lewis Anderson DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Sep. 2, 2014 @ 12:52 pm Posted Sep. 2, 2014 @ 12:52 pm » Social News Art from local photographer Lewis Anderson will be displayed at The Photographer's Gallery at Ashland Art Center, 357 E. Main St., through September. A First Friday reception is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. What attracted you to photography?   It's a good combination of left and right brain. My father was a nuclear engineer, so he was all left brain. My mother was an oil painter, so she was all right brain. If you're right brained, you can make postcards and if you're left brained, you can operate the camera in different ways. This combined my strengths. I came from documentary filmmaking, where I learned to restore photos. After a while, I found I liked the photos more than the movies. This is all I've done for the past 12 years. What type of subjects do you like to photograph? Almost everything is nature based, this camera doesn't shoot people. I really don't consider myself a photographer, but an image maker. Sometimes, I push it so far that people think the picture looks like a painting. Other times it's a straight photograph. Sometimes I even combine images together to make one picture. What are you displaying for First Friday? The pictures I'm showing are all ocean pieces taken on the Southern Oregon Coast. They have similar color palettes but are approached differently. All three are long exposures, so it produces something different than what you see with your eye. Water smooths out, things like that. One is of three islands, and the long exposure gives it a really ethereal look.  DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Sep. 2, 2014 @ 12:52 pm » Comment or view comments Reader Reaction » STAY INFORMED Email NewsLetter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox. calendar Connect with DailyTidings.com Facebook Twitter RSS Back to top Reader Services Reader Services home Subscriptions Subscriber controls Contact us Submissions Photos Events Letters to the editor Corrections Alerts Email alerts RSS feeds Text Alerts Advertise Media Kit Home Products and services Ad rates Advertising contacts Mail Tribune Daily Tidings The Nickel Shop Our Valley Blogs Stay Informed Email newsletter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
