In fact, I won't be setting foot in the State of Oregon at all. I had intended to attend the Shakespeare Festival next year. I'm sorry that I can't do that now, because the residents of your state voted discrimination against gay and lesbian people into your state constitution. I imagine that the people of Ashland are probably more progressive than your state at large. Perhaps naively, I imagine many people associated with the Shakespeare festival felt outrage and disgust toward their state's movement to foreclose the process of social evolution toward human rights. Unfortunately for me, the disgust I feel toward the majority of the citizens of Oregon, who voted with their bigotry rather than their hearts and minds, outweighs the enjoyment I would have felt attending the Shakespeare festival in Ashland. I won't give a dollar of my money, nor a minute of my time, nor a breath from my body to the state of Oregon, nor to the states of Ohio, Utah, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Montana, Mississippi, Michigan, Arkansas, Kentucky, or Georgia, as long as the constitutions of those states enshrine prejudice against me, my husband (married April 2, 2004 -Vancouver, B.C., Canada), my friends and neighbors.
