Olivia Merkle-Lawler and Rebecca Gabriell Hanley will present their multimedia installation featuring photography, ceramics and found objects in the Retzlaff Gallery; Elisabeth Ervine will present her photography in the Meyer Gallery; and Grants Pass artist Al Crane will show a collection of digitally manipulated images. Call 541-552-6387 or see sou.edu/art/galleries. Trio Valtorna The trio — violinist Ida Kavafian, French horn player David Jolley and pianist Gilles Vonsattel — will play John Harbison's "Twilight," Johannes Brahms' Horn Trio in E-flat major and more at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. Eric Johnson & Mike Stern Two bona fide guitar players — Eric Johnson from the realm of rock and Mike Stern from the jazz world — will go toe-to-toe for an eclectic musical showcase that brings their in the rock realm and Mike Stern in the jazz world – go toe-to-toe on Eclectic, a scintillating musical showcase that brings their distinctive styles to one potent package. The two powerhouse guitarists will play rock, blues and jazz at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at The Rogue Theatre, 143 S.E. H St., Grants Pass. The show is open to ages 21 and older. Terrapin Flyer Keyboard player Melvin Seals and singer and guitarist Mark Karan will join Chicago-based band Terrapin Flyer for a tribute to Grateful Dead music at 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St. Seals was a member of the Jerry Garcia Band for 15 years. After Garcia's death, Seals formed JGB, essentially Jerry Garcia's band without Garcia, and continues the group's legacy. Karan is best known for his work with Bob Weir & RatDog. He also leads the band Jemimah Puddleduck. The show is open to ages 21 and older. Tickets cost $20 in advance and can be purchased at Music Coop, 268 E. Main St., or online at liveatthearmory.com. Tickets will cost $25 at the door.  'A Question of Words' Camelot Theatre will premiere playwright Richard Manley's comedy drama — a winner at the 2013 Ashland New Plays Festival — the story of a poet who decides to quietly slip back into society after a long bereavement. Challenges prevail, with the one romantic exception that forces the realization that real life is a question of words. The show previews Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 4-5, opens Friday, Feb. 6, and runs through March 1. Curtain is at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. The Feb. 4 performance is a fundraiser for Community Health Center and tickets cost $27. Tickets cost $12 for the Feb. 5 preview. Other tickets cost $23 for students and seniors (except for Sunday matinees) and $25 for adults. A Q-and-A session with Manley will follow the Feb. 7 performance.
