The Raiders (24-6, 11-2 Cascade) won the opener 8-1 before the Owls (18-16, 7-6) stormed back for a 9-2 romp. Only freshman catcher Jaime Lyzell's fifth-inning solo home run separated SOU junior hurler Miranda Gillaspie from a complete-game shutout in Game 1. Despite competing with a broken index finger on her throwing hand, the Redmond righty extended her personal win streak to 12 straight with an eight-hit, six-strikeout performance. Junior catcher Carla Lillis (a two-run first-inning double), sophomore Leann Foster (a second-inning bases-clearing double) and sophomore Amy Williams (a two-run single in the sixth) delivered clutch two-out hits. In Game 2, OIT stymied SOU hopes for a second consecutive league twinbill sweep by exploding for six runs in the fifth frame and erasing a 1-0 Raider edge. Raider starter Amanda Cregan yielded only two hits in 4 1/3-innings before OIT freshman pitcher Laura Delplanche tied the contest 1-all with a one-out roundtripper to left. Tech then loaded the bases against reliever Gillaspie, and junior shortstop Amanda Doherty cleared them grand slam to left field. Tech added three runs off Megan Beugli in the sixth. The setback was the first for Gillaspie (14-3) in 17 appearances dating back to March 21. Senior Alexis Cooper and freshman Beth Morrill each went 3-for-6 for Southern, while Williams finished 2-for-6 overall with three RBIs, including a Game 2 home run. SOU next faces Northwest Christian in a non-league doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Saturday.
