Our democracy is seriously ill, is rotting from within. For decades the military/industrial complex, which Eisenhower so eloquently warned against, has been usurping the will of the people and the intent of our founding fathers. Over the last several years the powers that be have accelerated their takeover to a frightening pace. We are on a hypocritical global rampage of control, oppression, and manipulation under the banner of "national interests," and even partly under the obscene justification that it is somehow approved and sanctioned by a God who is "on our side." It is spearheaded by a group of arrogant, imperialist, neocons who authored the "Project for the New American Century". http://www.newamericancentury.org/ ). An understanding of this manifesto will shed light on the current, tragic events our time. Yes, there are terrorists doing despicable things in this world. And they should be stopped! But might they just be a symptom of, and backlash to the true sickness: the insatiable greed of multi-national corporations which put the god of profit above the God of love and compassion? Might they just be a symptom of the sickness of the power-addicted, corporate-whore politicians of our time? That sickness must be cured before we can ever hope to eliminate the symptoms. This wealthiest country in the history of the world has the technology and the resources to bring us into a world of unlimited, environmentally safe, renewable sources of energy ... and away from our societal-oppressing, global dominating, death spiral. And we could/should share that technology with the world. But do we have the will to reject the stranglehold of the mega-energy and defense corporations on our government? We have the resources and technology to supply every man, woman, and child in this country with complete health coverage. But do we have the will to reject the profit-over-humanity health insurers and pharmaceutical companies? We have the resources for this country (and the world) to assure that no person goes hungry. But do we have the will to make the morally responsible budget choices for that to occur? And most importantly, do we have the will to reject those politicians who choose their addiction to power and re-election over compassion and morality? Do we have the conscience and therefore the will to overcome our denial and apathy?
