Parker did not say what prompted Di Chiro’s attempted resignation or why the board rejected it. Di Chiro could not be reached for comment. “The board values Juli’s hard work and dedication to Ashland’s schools over the past 6 years, and is thrilled to have the opportunity to make this relationship work,” Parker wrote in a prepared statement. On Friday, the board and superintendent discussed contract language in executive session with Dori Brattain, legal counsel for the school board, that related to working out issues of mutual concern. Board members have refused to comment on the specifics of those discussions. “Both parties have agreed to continue contract negotiations next week, and we all expect a satisfactory outcome,” said Amy Patton, a school board member and the board liaison to contract negotiations. Di Chiro’s contract expires June 30 and, in August, Di Chiro had asked the board to complete negotiations by the end of January. The board never agreed to a Jan. 31 deadline, but both sides have said they want to come an agreement as soon as possible. “We expect to finalize the contract shortly,” Parker said in today’s statement. “The public will have an opportunity to see and comment on the final product before the board takes action on it.” No deadline for reaching agreement on the contract has been set. The school boeard meets tonight at 7 in the Ashland Civic Center City Council Chamber, 1175 E.
