Never again leave this very important process to a group called the Electoral College. In fact in my opinion it is now time to stop this outdated way of "selecting" a president of the United States of America. Also, never again leave it to a Supreme Court. Beginning with the 2004 presidential "election," it must be done by popular vote only. Each registered voter receives one ballot, all alike and counted by electronic equipment. The candidate with the most votes will be our new president! If we cannot or will not achieve this procedure, then stop wasting our time and money by letting us think that our votes count and forget the popular vote. I sent 100 envelopes addressed to each senator. Forget the aisle that separates you. Let's get on with it. Ellen E. Gatter Phoenix Rest area near city is a bad idea We would like to protest the rest stop planned just south of Ashland. We cannot believe anyone would want to build such a stop so close to city limits. This is a super big rest stop with spots for many trucks. The number of trucks as of now would be continuous traffic re-entering I-5, changing gears and revving to get up to speed. This would be mostly in the city limits next to a residential area. With the increasing population, the overwhelming truck traffic is increasing every day and will be double what it is now in a few years. This area is in an area that will surely be annexed and residential areas built as Ashland grows. The only truck stops we are aware of this close to a city is where the city has grown out to the truck stop. James L. Bratton and Winnifred B.
