SOU Jazz Choir to perform The Southern Oregon Univer-sity Jazz Choir under the directorship of Dr. Kirby Shaw will present a jazz choir concert at 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 11, the SOU Music Recital Hall. This 48 member college/community ensemble has prepared a rich brew of American popular music which promises "to satisfy your ears, eyes, and soul." The choir will sing jazz, ballads, latin, celtic, Beatles, spirituals even bluegrass. And Dr. Shaw guarantees that your DNA will be re-arranged after you hear Beth Baker sing "Operator!" General admission tickets are $5. Student and senior tickets are $3. For more information contact the SOU Department of Music at 552-6101. Shaw is a teacher, composer, arranger, and performer. He has a BA in music education and an MA in choral composition from San Jose State University and a DMA in choral conducting from the University of Washington. As a performer, Shaw has scatted one-on-one with such notables as Bobby McFerrin, Al Jarreau, Jon Hendricks and Mark Murphy. He has two solo singing CDs to his credit; The Other Side, featuring Kansas City's finest rhythm section, and It's About Time, with Phil Mattson on piano. He is also the founder/director/arranger of Encore!, a three woman, two man a cappella ensemble based in Ashland. SOU Symphonic Band Concert Southern Oregon Univer-sity Bands presents "A Wind Player's Delight", at 8 p.m., Thursday, March 13 in the Music Recital Hall at Southern Oregon University. The evening will feature Cynthia Hutton conducting both the SOU Symphonic Band and the newly formed SOU Civic-University Wind Ensemble. The concert will include music for both full band and chamber winds. The Siskiyou Saxophone Quartet will join the Civic University Wind Ensemble on Carleton Macy's "Heat" and the Civic University Wind Ensemble Brass section will premiere "Sian Ka'an" by Southern Oregon composer Mark Jacobs. Other works include Robert Kurka's "Good Soldier Schweik." The SOU Symphonic Band will round it out with music by Gordon Jacobs, John Barnes Chance, Frank Ticheli and Roger Cichy. General admission tickets are $5, student and senior tickets are $3. There will be a pre-concert lecture by Robin Lawson at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 14 in the SOU Music Building.
