By Thomas Moriarty Ashland Daily Tidings December 23. 2014 6:15PM Friends and family renew push to find missing Ashland teen Hannah Thomas-Garner Friends and family members of missing Ashland teenager Hannah Thomas-Garner are organizing a search Sunday in the area where she was last reported seen. The 17-year-old reportedly was last seen at a high school party Nov. 29 near milepost 13 on Dead Indian Memorial Road, according to family members. "After that point, nobody saw her leave," said her father, Jeff Garner. Police believe Thomas-Garner had planned to run away with another teenage girl, 15-year-old Sylvia Davis, and was headed to California. Davis was later found in good condition in Humboldt County. But Thomas-Garner's family members find it hard to believe she was a runaway. An honor student who was beloved by her community, Thomas-Garner rarely argued or fought with her parents, her father said. "Her mother and I divorced when Hannah was 3," said Garner, who lives in Texas. "She texted me on Thanksgiving to say 'Happy Thanksgiving,' and the only thing she complained about was that the dishwasher was broken." Thomas-Garner's 2012 Ford Focus was discovered Dec. 1 near Mt. Shasta with its window smashed in. Her keys, camera and phone were still inside, and the phone's SIM card had been removed. Garner said he questions whether his daughter actually drove away from that party herself, or whether she was even there. "We have absolutely, 100 percent, no idea what happened," he said. "There are no cameras going up the length of I-5 that have any record of her car." One man, whom police have called a credible witness, reported having given a girl matching Thomas-Garner's description a ride to Dunsmuir. As for the phone's SIM card, Garner said there's been no activity from her number. "AT&T, the carrier, is monitoring that number," he said. "If that SIM card is put back in another phone, the number will activate, and we'll notify law enforcement." Vanessa Houk, a member of the Bring Hannah Home Facebook group, said searchers will meet from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, dressed for the weather, at the intersection of Shale City and Dead Indian Memorial Road to look for any clues related to her disappearance. "Are we hoping we find her there?" Garner said. "No — because that means she's no longer living."
