--> --> July 16: Johns a runner-up in state match PENDLETON - Ashland High golf standout Stephanie Johns notched first flight runner-up status at the Oregon Golf Association State Match Play Championship at Wildhorse Resort Golf Course on Friday. Johns, an incoming sophomore at AHS, shot an 86 in the stroke play portion of the five-day competition, then won two of four matches, including two of three in first-flight play. Johns, who finished in a three-way tie for sixth place in the OSAA Class 4A state golf meet in May, lost to Cassie Castleman of Portland to fall into first-flight play, but bounced back with wins over Kelly Greenough of La Grande and Molly Boyle of Canby. Johns, who lowered her score each day, lost to Courtney Sullivan of Gresham in the first-flight finals. The meet was Johns' first effort in the girls 15-17-year-old division. Temperatures at the un-shaded course soared to 110 degrees as heat exhaustion forced some players to leave early. Email your...
