[Photo by Graham Lewis/Graham Lewis Fine Photography] Wednesday May 3, 2017 at 2:00 AM Local report Nearly 200 participants took part in the five-stage, 36-mile Siskiyou Challenge on Saturday, April 29, using legs, wheels and paddles to make their way from Emigrant Lake to ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum, raising an estimated $10,000 to support Rogue Valley Farm to School in the process. All proceeds from the event go to hands-on farm, garden, and nutrition education for preschool through 12th-grade students in Jackson and Josephine counties. Since its inception 7 years ago, the race has grown to become a highly anticipated event by members of both the Rogue Valley and racing communities, whether competing independently or in teams of two to five racers that kayak, bike and run to complete the course. Rogue Valley Farm to School educates children about our food system through hands-on farm and garden programs, and by increasing local foods in school meals, and also seeks to inspire an appreciation of local agriculture that improves the economy and environment of the community and the health of its members. RVF2S reaches nearly 10,000students to show them where their food comes from through farm, school garden, and cafeteria based programs. This year's race drew 187 entrants. The top solo finisher with a time of 3:09:42 was Joe Cooper of Ashland. The top women's duo was the Arete Crossfit Power Snatches team of Ameila Bueche and Andrea Napoli with a time of 3:23:08; top duo mixed, Bee's Knees, Liam and Rebekah Campbell, 3:42:07; men's team (3-5 members), Darex A, Grant Loberg, Joe Keto, Paul Daniel, Eric Hamilton and Sam Jacobson, 2:54:03; mixed (3-5 members), How's My Driving?, Heather Lipana, Anne Hansen, Curtis Hills, Eric Iversen and Nate Olsen, 3:08:14; corporate (3-5 members), SOS Plumbing, Mike Davis, Dave Richards, Charlie Hamilton, Josh Brown and  Alan Vos, 3:28:21; and female (3-5 members), Siskiyou Massage, Jenny Kuehnle, Erin Akers, Robin Pike, Sarah Summers and Jessica Masters, 3:58:03.
