Oregon Man Arrested for Threatening a Hispanic Family with a Shotgun and Using Racially Charged Remarks Crime & Courts By Lucille McNamara On Feb 12, 2025 Salem Police arrested a 27-year-old man on Sunday late afternoon who threatened a Hispanic family with a firearm while shouting racially charged remarks. He will appear in the Marion County Circuit Court this afternoon (Tuesday).   Salem Residents Asked to Report Incidents of Racial Bias to the Police The police are appealing to residents to report incidents of racial bias involving threats to personal safety or hate speech, either verbal or in the form of graffiti. Patrol officers responded to a call to the 2100 block of NE Coral Avenue around 5 p.m. about a man menacing a family and brandishing a shotgun at two adults and a young girl. The family were waiting for a tow truck. The suspect is Mauris Haun of Salem. He was arrested on the scene without incident and is in the Marion County Jail charged with three counts of first-degree bias crime, three counts of menacing, and three counts of unlawful use of a weapon. The police have taken possession of the shotgun. Haun will appear in the Marion County Circuit Court this afternoon (Tuesday). In a news release, Salem Police appeal to residents to immediately report bias-motivated incidents for investigation. Residents must report acts of racial hatred or bias to the Oregon Department of Justice Bias Response Hotline at 1-844-924-2427. Residents can file a report online .
