As a matter of fact that leaves out the reasons for the troubled times: A war we had no business starting based on total lies by the Bush Administration causing countless thousands of deaths both American and Iraqi, destroying what was left of the infrastructure in Iraq, causing the loss of a huge number of precious relics from history, and over taxing our military; total misuse of our National Guard; lack of funding and dismantling of anything and everything that protects our environment and endangered species, including our National Parks; threatening to fire someone who told the truth about the Medicare bill the President and the Republicans pushed through that was written by the pharmaceutical companies to benefit those same pharmaceutical companies; lack of funding for our schools and his lip-service "no child left behind" and an absurd tax cut that put our balanced budget (thanks to President Clinton) into the largest deficit in U.S. history. What leadership? Liarship is more like it. Rather than celebrating the Bush Administration making our world "more safe" I believe the Congress needs to censure President Bush for lying in order to follow his own private agenda to get rid of Saddam Hussein to finish his daddy's business! People who want to know what the Bush Administration is really about need to go online to www.new americancentury.org and discover for themselves the Bush Administration's plan to take over the world with their ideology! You'll find a number of folks from the Bush Administration are members of this organization. From an angry ~ Pamela Goodwin Ashland War hero doesn't need to claim it I feel obliged to comment on the issue of "war hero" that has been so vocally and regularly propounded by Senator Kerry and his supporters. The matter of service to one's country is held sacred by most, if not all, of us. However, I take exception with the term war hero being applied as it so often is. Certainly, there were war heroes in our past conflicts. In Vietnam there were many thousands whose voices were forever silenced who are deserving of that honor together with the families whose lives were forever saddened and changed. These were "war heroes!" For the rest of us who served, it can merely be said that we survived and, hopefully, did our duty as well as we were capable of doing and the circumstances demanded. I spent 1966, 1967 and part of 1968 engaged in that effort and feel I am a fair judge in the matter. It disturbs me greatly to see those who use the war experience to further their own agenda, particularly an agenda with a political component. I would also like to call Senator Kerry's attention to the issue of greatness. Senator, it is not necessary to herald one's own greatness. Greatness speaks for itself and has a few signal components that compose the special elements of character including integrity and honesty. I am looking for yours and if I find these qualities, I will surely let you know. C.W. (Wilhelm) Saar Jackson County Attack ads starting early Attack ads are early this year. Usually aired by a challenger against the incumbent, MacDaddy Dubbya has rolled out the negative attack ads. Bush the Younger's new campaign ad 100 Days is a classic - accusing Senator Kerry of wanting to: (1) raise taxes by "at least" $900 billion; and (2) weaken the "Patriot Act." Harsh claims, if true. Reality check. The ads are false. Regarding taxes, Kerry said, "In my first hundred days in the White House, I will roll back George Bush's tax cut for the wealthiest so that we can invest in education and health care." Senator Kerry elaborates that he will seek tax cuts for families to assist with health care - which has increased in cost 49 percent during Commander Codpiece's tenure. Rolling back tax breaks to the rich simply is not "raising" taxes. Second, Senator Kerry voted for, and assisted in drafting some of the key money laundering provisions, the "Patriot Act". Last year, under cover of the "Patriot Act", Rep. Tom Delay (R.) used thirteen FAA employees and a Homeland Security tracking system to locate Texas State Legislators resisting a quorum in protest of a GOP gerrymandering of the electoral districts.
