Donald Dale McClain Donald Dale McClain, 96, of Ashland, formerly of Topeka, kan., died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, in Ashland. A family service is planned in Ashland followed by the funeral in Topela, Kan. where his remains will be buried next to his wife, Clara. Donald was born July 25, 1906 in Cement, Okla., son of Ulysses and Senah McClain. He was raised in St. Mary's, Kan. On Dec. 3, 1935 in Topeka, Kan., he married the former Clara Elizabeth Fitzgerald, who preceded him in death. He lived in the Rogue Valley since 2000 from Kansas. As a young man, he studied briefly at the Art Institute of Chicago. Settling in Topeka, Kan., he was a longtime employee of hte Jordan Sunbeam Bakery. he enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodcarving and "puttering" around the house. Surviving are his son, Don Van Valen McClain of Kansas City, Mo.; daughter, C. Suzanne Bissey of Ashland; one older sister, Edith Huntsman of Topeka, Kan.; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Abbey Funeral., Ashland.
