--> --> Nov. 1: Grizz netters advance to state playoffs; Sheldon next Ashland Daily Tidings PRINEVILLE - The Ashland High volleyball team came away with a hard-fought victory over Crook County in the second round of the OSAA playoffs Wednesday night. The Grizzlies won 13-15, 15-8, 15-12 to advance to play at Sheldon Friday at 3 p.m. Both Ashland and Sheldon are tied for No. 10 in this week's volleyball poll, and the winner will advance to the Chiles Center next weekend. Wednesday night against Crook County, the Grizzlies ran into an impressive Cowboys' squad that came out of the gate on fire. "They are a really good team," Grizz head coach Josh Rohlfing said. "They've got three good hitters and we weren't ready for that. There's not a team in our conference that has that many hitters." The teams battled back-and-forth in the second game before the Grizzlies went on a roll to close out the game. In Game 3, Crook County pulled ahead numerous times and was leading 13-11 before the Grizz came flying back. Senior Ashley Fence served the final three points of the match to send the Grizzlies a step closer to Portland. Fence finished with 11 kills for the Grizzlies and didn't have any errors. "Ashley had a huge match," Rohlfing said. "She really stepped up when we needed her. Junior Marla Morin added 14 kills with only one error and senior Kacey Zundel chipped in with 19 digs. "The more we get tested the better we are going to play down the road," Rohlfing said. "Mentally for us this was a big win. We know we can compete with anyone in the state." Sheldon narrowly beat Ashland earlier this year at the Rogue Valley Classic. Email your...
