This will be a rare night of music in the rogue Valley with two full sets by two performers who have been proactive in sharing a socially conscious message through their music. Ziggy is a native of Kingston, Jamaica. When he was ten years old, he first sat in on recording sessions with his father the legendary Bob Marley. With his three siblings, Ziggy formed The Melody Makers and created his own soulful sound of blues, R & B, hip hop and roots reggae. They earned their first Grammy in 1988 for their third album Conscious Party (produced by Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth of the Talking Heads). Subsequent albums included the Grammy winning One Bright Day in 1989 and Fallen Is Babylon in 1997. While selling records by the millions and selling out countless concerts, including a recent European tour. In his two decades of making music, Michael Franti has honed his message of social justice and protest. As his message has developed so has his music from the days of his collaboration with jazz guitarist Charlie Hunter to the creation of his current band Spearhead in 1994.
