Ashland Daily Tidings/DENISE BARATTA North runs over Ashland By Sarah Petersen Ashland Daily Tidings The Ashland High boys and girls track and field team said farewell to head coach Bob Julian Tuesday at a dual meet with North Medford, but it wasn't enough to pull the Grizzlies to victory. The Black Tornado boys rolled to a 92-53 victory and a 100-40 win on the girls side. "It's kind of strange to think that it's all over with," Julian said. "It felt good to walk around the track and to have people recognize and acknowledge that I am leaving. I am going to miss working with the other coaches from around the conference. It has been a pleasure to compete against them. I have enjoyed just being a part of the whole competition." As for the meet with North, Julian saw some bright spots. "Today we both showed our strengths," he said. "North showed it in the sprints and we showed it with our distance running. The key right now is to keep everybody healthy before districts and state." Junior Cameron Voget showed he was ready for the postseason events by winning the javelin with a toss of 206 feet, three inches for a first place mark. "Everything has been coming around at the end as far as throwing technique and the distances I have been throwing," Voget said. "I feel really ready for districts which are coming up next week. The runway and the head wind where I will be throwing at for districts (at Oregon Tech) is outstanding. I am glad that Bob's last meet was at home. We'll all miss him next year." Junior Nate Hoxmeier lead the pack in the 800 meter with a time of 2:02. Senior Zach Williams won the 110 hurdles edging Chris Vorgang with a time of 15.5. "The guy that I was racing against is really good at the hurdles," Williams said. "At the Crater Classic he beat me by a couple tenths of a second. I was excited to race him again today." Ashland's Chris Faudree came away with victories in the 1,500 and 3,000. On the girls side senior Paris Edwards paced the Grizzlies to two victories in the 800 and 1,500. "Today I was just getting in some speed runs," Edwards said. "It's pretty hot today and that's good because these will be the conditions at state. Today was my last varsity meet on my home track and I am pretty sad about that." Freshman Erika Boehnke claimed her best personal leap of the year, 5-2, to claim a victory in the high jump. "It felt really good to win," Boehnke said. "It gives me so much confidence going into districts knowing that I can jump that height. Other girls with victories for the Grizz were Miriah Mayfield in the 3,000, Stacy Foster who tossed the javelin 108-6 and the 1,600 relay team sprinted to a victory with a time of 4:10.7. Ashland will compete at a 11:30 a.m. next Thursday at the Southern Oregon district track meet on the campus of Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls. Girls Golf At Klamath Falls, the Grizz girls couldn't make up any ground during Day 2 of the district championships and finished fifth in the eight-team tournament. The Grizzlies finished with a two-day total of 833, well off the pace set by champion Grants Pass (698). Ashland's Ellen Dow led the Grizzlies on Day 2 with a 94, followed by Bianca Montagnino (101), Carrie Thorpe (102) and Kellie Thompson (126). Boys Golf At Roseburg, the Grizz boys finished fifth in the district tournament after firing a two-day total of 644. Grants Pass won the tournament with a 615, followed by Roseburg at 623. Pat Oropallo followed up his opening round 77 with an 80 to finish with 157. Other Grizz finishers were Jesse Smith (158), Kevin Blum (158), Scott Bishop (172) and Mike Plein (176). Email your...
