--> --> City 14-15's take 2nd at state tourney Ashland Daily Tidings The Ashland Babe Ruth 14-and-15-year-old All-Stars took second place falling 4-2 to a powerful Umpqua squad at the state tournament Sunday afternoon at Eagle Point. Before the Ashland All-Stars made it to the championship game they had to face Brookings Saturday morning which ended up having to forfit the game due to use of an illegal pitcher. Later in the day Ashland faced a tough Central Point squad beating them 5-2. Sunday morning Ashland was challenged in the semifinal game with Roseburg before inching by them 7-6. "We played terrific baseball the entire weekend," head coach Scott Nelson said. "The team played very relaxed in all the games and never had bad attitudes. The guys always kept their heads up no matter what the situation was. We just had a lot of fun." Despite the second place finish, the All-Stars didn't seem to mind the end result. "The last five games the guys played were awesome," Nelson said. "The team in general had great chemistry and all of the guys were a pleasure to work with." Email your...
