Tidings should stop bashing the Festival Now here's a case of the "pot calling the kettle black!" The Ashland Daily Tidings editorial self-righteously demanding the Oregon Shakespeare Festival allow publication of their employee's salaries. With a little inquiry, it is not hard to discover that the Tidings pays scarcely a dollar over minimum wage to employees with many years experience at the paper, and otherwise has an enormous personnel turnover in the area of reportage. Granted, the Tidings is hardly comparable in significance to the Festival. I worked as a theater properties artisan with OSF for five years. I would be piqued if I thought every local "nosy parker" was allowed simple and ready access to my salary stubs and income information. There are almost eight hundred volunteers and employees producing that excellent theater each season. There are countless more donating financial support. Where does this poor excuse for a newspaper, "The Daily Tidings" get off with this endless festival bashing?
