The 6-foot-7 Springfield native is only the second Raider men's player ever named to an NAIA All-American team, and Washington's second-team status eclipsed the third-team honors received by the late Keith Wade following the 1950-51 season. After transferring from Montana State last summer, Washington helped Southern Oregon post its most successful record (19-15) and best Cascade Conference finish (third) since 1998-99. The former Thurston High standout and Midwestern League player-of-the-year selection finished second behind Albertson first-team All-American Tom Perkes by one vote in the closest Cascade Conference MVP balloting in the league's 11-year history. Washington ranked in the conference top-three in six league-game-only statistical categories: rebounding (No. 1, 10.3), scoring (No. 2, 20.9), field goal percentage (No. 2, .593), blocked shots (No. 2, 1.94), offensive rebounds (No. 2, 3.50) and defensive rebounds (No. 1, 6.83). His overall scoring (18.8) and rebounding (9.0) averages were the best by an individual Raider player since 1983-84, and Washington ranked 31st among NAIA Division II players for scoring, 23rd for rebounding, 18th for blocked shots and 11th for double-doubles (13). Washington, who was also selected to the league's all-defensive team, broke the SOU season blocked shot record (60), finished second all-time for total points (640) and had the program's fifth-highest rebound total (303).
