TRANSPORTATION ODOT to begin paving and cable work on I-5 Comment DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Aug. 7, 2016 at 1:58 PM Posted Aug. 7, 2016 at 1:58 PM » Social News Local report The Oregon Department of Transportation in the coming week will begin paving Interstate 5 between mileposts 19 and 27 — north Ashland to south Medford — in a $5.9 million project that will also involve the installation of cable rails in the freeway median. According to ODOT spokesman Gary Leaming, the contractor will work 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily through Friday morning. Work was set to begin Sunday, Aug. 7. Motorists are advised to watch for traffic control signs and single lane traffic. Beginning Wednesday night and possibly into Thursday night, there will be ramp closures at Talent's Exit 21, for both on- and off-ramps. Beginning Thursday night, there will be ramp closures at Ashland's Exit 19, for both the southbound off-ramp and northbound on-ramp. Leaming said the contractor has been requested to begin on the northbound off-ramp side due to Oregon Shakespeare Festival-related traffic coming into Ashland. The project will pave I-5 and ramps in the project area, with the exception of in and around Exit 24. In addition, it will install cable rail between mileposts 11 and 27. Cable rail is being installed throughout the interstate system in Oregon as a safety measure — the cables are intended to catch cars that veer onto the median and prevent them from crossing into the oncoming lane of traffic.
