Bartlett St., Medford. Students will explore themes around school safety through theater performances, presentations and interactive workshops. Play Opening: The opening performance for the Randall Theatre Company's production of Gothic melodrama "The Mystery of Irma Vep" starts at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at 10 Third St., Medford. An Evening of Scottish Music: Multi-instrumentalist Brian Freeman returns with his annual celebration of the birthday of Scottish poet and songwriter Robert Burns at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 44 N. Second St., Ashland. Freeman — who plays guitar, mandolin, tenor banjo and autoharp — will present Burns' "Auld Lang Syne," "Comin' Thro' the Rye" and others, along with his own original and contemporary Celtic-style folk music. Freeman has performed the Ploughman Poet's songs at Highland games in Scotland and the U.S., and has recorded much of the lyricist's music. The film is based on the true story of Sudanese refugees who are given the chance to resettle in America, and their life-changing encounter with an employment agency counselor.
