Traffic was restricted for more than an hour and a half, and more lane closures are expected today while crews remove the scorched remains of the truck from the median. The northbound fast lane will close Friday while that recovery effort happens, officials said. The tractor-trailer carrying plastics jackknifed in the median around 11 a.m. Thursday, ODOT reported. The driver, Abdullahi A. Farah, 33, of Denver, Colo., reported that the truck started to slide, then hit a concrete barrier and a light pole, Oregon State Police reported. The tractor caught fire and burned to the ground. The front of the trailer also burned. Farah wasn't injured, police reports said. Smoke and flames could be seen in images captured by road cameras at Exit 6 around that time. Firefighters and law enforcement arrived a few minutes later. Fire trucks worked in the northbound lanes for about an hour. ODOT spokesman Gary Leaming said it's not unusual to have truckers lose control on the curve near Exit 6. The department is considering adding dynamic signs there that notify drivers of their speeds.
