Best Bets: Jan. 8-15 Comment DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Jan. 8, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Jan. 8, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News Hillstomp Portland blues duo Henry Kammerer on guitar and vocals and John Johnson on a homemade drum kit featuring a kick drum, some cymbals and a variety of buckets will play their trademark raging stomp and moody folk ballads at 10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Lounge South, 66 Pioneer St.  The show will include The John Dough Boys and The Brothers Reed. Hillstomp's newest album is "Portland, Ore.," on Fluff and Gravy Records. Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com. Art Exhibit "Naked Art," works in watercolor, pastel, acrylic and oil with no frames nor mats, will open Friday, Jan. 9, and run through Feb. 28 at Art Presence Art Center, 206 N. Fifth St., Jacksonville. Also look for works in glass, pottery, wood and jewelry. A reception for the artists will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at the gallery. Regular hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Bob Haworth The singer, songwriter and guitarist of The Brothers Four and The Kingston Trio fame will play original and cover songs from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at South Stage Cellars, 125 S. Third St., Jacksonville. Haworth was with Brothers Four from 1970 to 1985 and The Kingston Trio from '85 to 2000. Haworth's life has come full circle: He played music while growing up and attending high school in the Rogue Valley, then toured the world with the folk groups. His final concert with The Kingston Trio was in 2005 at Britt Festivals. He now lives in Jacksonville. Admission is free. 'Like a Rolling Stone' Get an up close and personal look at a folk music icon Bob Dylan when Next Stage Repertory Company presents its original musical tribute to Bob Dylan at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, and 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford. Next Stage artistic director and his group Rogue Valley musicians — Jeff Pevar, Matt Kriemelman, Jeff Addicott, Bret Levick, Don Harris, Inger Jorgensen and Jade Watt — will present musical perspectives on such songs as "Blowin' in the Wind," "Positively 4th Street," "Mr. Tambourine Man," "Forever Young" and more. Tickets cost $18 and can be purchased online at craterian.org, at the box office, 16 S. Bartlett St., or by calling 541-779-3000. Neil Berg and 'Rock 'n' Roll Decades' An award-winning composer and lyricist known for his productions of "100 Years of Broadway," "Grumpy Old Men: The Musical" and "The Prince and the Pauper" — will bring "Rock 'n' Roll Decades," hit songs of the '50s, '60s and '70s and untold stories of rock 'n' roll legends Chuck Berry, Elvis, the Beatles and more, to the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, and will feature five singers from Broadway's rock music. Tickets cost $32, $35 or $38, $23, $26 or $29 for ages 18 and younger, and can be purchased at the Craterian box office, 16 S. Bartlett St., online at craterian.org or by calling 541-779-3000. 'Spotlight on Roy Orbison' A tribute to singer and songwriter Roy Orbison — known for emotional ballads that captures of the loneliness and heartache of many of his fans, along with his mysterious looks and signature sunglasses — will preview Thursday, Jan. 15, and run through Sunday, Jan. 25, at Camelot Theatre, 101 Talent Ave., Talent. Look for such songs as "Oh, Pretty Woman," "Crying," "Only the Lonely," "It's Over" and others. The script is by Catherine Noah, musical direction and arrangements by Karl Iverson and direction by Presila Quinby. Curtain is at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, 2 p.m. Sundays.
