--> --> DeBoer cares One of our vocal minority groups seems put out that they could not orchestrate a final "scene" at the toppling of the ginkgo tree. Let's not forget that Ashland was involved for a very long time in exhaustive, searching, compromising, enlightening meetings. A decision had been made, and not in any covert way, to move on with this project which 60% of the voters favored. We have lost a tree - one that experts said was on its last leg anyway -- but soon will have a respectable, enjoyable, large-enough-to-meet-our-town's-needs expanded and renovated new library. It's not that unusual for the old to make way for the new. How many realize that there other ginkgoes growing healthily in town? What prevents people who miss that old tree from planting a young one in their yards? Mayor Alan DeBoer should be congratulated on carrying out his official obligations of office in a manner that I felt was not only proper but in the best interests of our town. He cares about our town as much as anybody, and has always performed as a concerned, very well-intentioned citizen in his many volunteer civic activities. Dick Trout Ashland Email your...
