Nominees sought for Ragland award Wednesday Dec 7, 2016 at 12:25 PM Dec 7, 2016 at 12:25 PM Local report Nominations are being accepted for the annual "Volunteer Spirit" community service award, which is awarded to a deserving community member or organization in memory of James M. Ragland. Ashland's mayor and City Council present the award annually, with this year's award scheduled to be presented in January at the annual State of the City Celebration. Ragland was a former councilor and planning commissioner who was involved in numerous citizen volunteer efforts. Criteria considered includes public sector volunteer services performed, length of service, absence of adequate recognition in the past and any other attributes the nominee may have that should be considered. Consideration is also given to people who volunteer hours beyond their regular work day to perform a service that benefits the community. Nominations of any individual or organization for the James M. Ragland Memorial Ashland "Volunteer Spirit" Community Service Award should be sent to the Mayor's Office, 20 E. Main St., Ashland, OR 97520, by Wednesday, Dec. 14. A nomination form is available online at www.ashland.or.us, at City Hall (20 E. Main St.) or by calling the mayor's office at 541-488-6002.
