Poll: Limit Patriot Act activities An overwhelming majority of Internet voters want the Ashland City Council to limit the participation of city employees in Patriot Act activities. In vigorous voting, 582 people logged on to www.dailytidings. com this week to answer the question, "A group called the Ashland Patriots is introducing a resolution to the City Council defining how city employees may participate in Patriot Act activities. What is your opinion?" The highest vote-getter was "Good idea, our privacy is threatened by the act," with 400 people or 69 percent making that their choice. Another 176 people, or 30 percent went the opposite direction, thinking the city city should stay out of the issue, labeling the ordinance a "Bad idea, the city has plenty to do, leave security to the feds." Just six people, or 1 percent believe there is "Nothing wrong with the concept, but we're already sufficiently protected." This week's poll question, posted Saturday, is: "Gino Grimaldi takes over the city's top job next month. What is your advice for him?" The Tidings weekly online poll is an unscientific measurement of public opinion and only reflects the views of those who choose to participate. Its sole purpose is to provide greater public input on a variety of issues.
