'Blue Christmas' service offered Thursday Dec 15, 2016 at 1:35 PM Dec 15, 2016 at 1:35 PM Local report Getting through a time of year when people are seemingly supposed to be merry or risk being seen as some Scrooge-like wraith can be rough sledding for those who are depressed, have experienced losses, fear for our country, have difficult family relationships, or are just feeling blue. That's why a "Blue Christmas Service" is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the First Presbyterian Church of Ashland, 1615 Clark Ave. (near the corner of Siskiyou Boulevard and Walker Avenue). Traditional holiday events often do not meet everyone’s needs,  organizers say, so people who are not having a "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holiday" and friends or family who support them are invited to come and sit with one another in a time set apart, a break from the longest nights of the year. The idea is to join in a "rest in the love of God" during a non-denominational service of quiet time with poetry, scripture, music, candle lighting and prayer for anyone who needs it.
