Tanisha Burch Burch, who received Cascade Conference and regional honors on Tuesday, went 6-for-9 (.667) with nine RBIs, five extra-base hits and three home runs in SOU’s league sweeps of Western Baptist and Concordia last Friday and Saturday. Burch tormented WBC with a University Field-record six RBIs and two of the dingers in a 3-for-3 performance in the 17-nil Game 1 rout, and she jacked a clutch opposite-field home run — her fifth of the year — to knot Game 2 at 5-all with one out in the bottom of the seventh. The Mt. Hood Community College transfer then scored the game-winning run in SOU’s Saturday 2-0 win against Concordia. and legged out an RBI triple in the second game. Factoring in five walks and a reached-on-an-error, Burch, who took over the team lead for batting average (.347), compiled an astronomical .750 on-base percentage. The first player to record one dinger of each flavor during a season, including a top-of-the-seventh grand slam that helped SOU down EOU 4-3 in La Grande on April 2, Burch is batting a conference-best .474 (9-for-19 with 13 RBI) in league play. Winners of nine straight contests, Southern Oregon enters tomorrow’s 2 p.m. conference doubleheader with Albertson College 26-15 overall and 9-4 in circuit play.
