Brown on climate change ... 5 things you still can't pack in your carry-on luggage Comment Posted Apr. 10, 2015 @ 12:18 pm Actress Alyssa Milano’s recent Tweets about London Heathrow Airport’s decision to toss her pumped breast milk got us thinking about what other items are still not allowed in carry-on luggage here in the United States. Some are pretty expected, while other items on the list may have you scratching your head. Liquids: Current TSA rules state that all liquids brought aboard a flight must be packaged in 3.4-ounce-or-smaller containers. According to the TSA , you may bring bigger containers of breast milk or formula with you on a flight (traveling with or without your baby), as long as you tell the TSA officer at the beginning of your screening. These items will be subject to X-ray screening. (Photo: Flickr, Grant Wickes) Snowglobes: It may seem a bit strange, but TSA has banned passengers from bringing these souvenirs aboard their flights since 2009. Though this particular ban has been the butt of more than a few jokes made by travel writers and frequent fliers alike. The one exception, added in 2012? TSA agents may let you keep your snowglobe if it appears to have 3.4 ounces of liquid inside or less. (Photo: Flickr, Melissa Robison) Sporting goods: Trying to avoid checking a bag? If you’re trying to bring sporting goods along with you for your trip, you may be out of luck. Acceptable carry-on items, per the TSA, include baseballs, tennis racquets, ice skates, snowboards and skateboards, while items like baseball bats, boogie boards and pool cues must be packed in checked baggage. (Photo: Flickr, Peter Miller) Sharp objects: While knitting needles are fine to bring along for your in-flight entertainment, you’ll have to pack your box cutters, knives, pickaxes, meat cleavers, sabers and swords in your checked baggage. Scissors are OK if they have blades shorter than 4 inches, as are disposable shaving razors and cartridges. (Photo: Wikimedia Commons) Firearms: You’d think it’d be a no-brainer to leave your firearms at home (or pack them in your checked luggage, following TSA rules ), but you’d be surprised at how many people try and bring them in their carry-ons . In 2014 alone, for example, TSA said it confiscated more than 2,200 firearms from carry-on luggage, an all-time high since the organization began keeping track of these things.
