James Twyman to headline benefit Internationally known peace troubadour James Twyman will be featured in a Celebration of Life Benefit Concert beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 23. All funds will support health care expenses for Ashland residents Catherine Roze and Chris Celine, for cancer treatment. The fundraiser will be held at the Havurah Shir Hadash, 185 N. Mountain Ave. in Ashland, with a suggested minimum donation of $10. The event begins with a silent auction and bake sale at 2:30 p.m. Music starts at 3 p.m. with James Twyman, author and musician who has traveled the world performing The Peace Concert, in Iraq, Northern Ireland, Bosnia, South Africa and Israel. Twyman has mobilized millions of people via the internet to simultaneously pray for peace and is currently creating a retreat center in southern Oregon devoted to world peace. Donny Roze, who describes himself as a musical messenger of love and joy, will share his heart-opening music next. His lay-off in September due to budget cuts, ended his 10-year position as an elementary school music teacher, making supporting his wife Catherine's health care costs a challenging task. Ashland's own 10-piece salsa band, Mambo Rico, will provide a lively Latin beat to complete the concert with an opportunity to dance in celebration of life. The band, formed two years ago by a group of long-time fans and students of salsa music, played to an overflow crowd at their recent concert in Ashland. JPR's Eric Alan will serve as emcee for this fund-raiser. Catherine Roze and Chris Celine, both 20-year Ashland residents and close friends, are well-loved in our community. Catherine, who gives care to others with such a compassionate heart, was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago. She has chosen primarily an alternative approach to her healing that is not covered by medical insurance. Chris, more recently diagnosed with cancer, experiences that her life as a mother, grandmother, spiritual teacher and co-owner of Medford Interiors is a great blessing.
