Gertrude C. Woods No services are planned for Gertrude Carlton Woods, 96, of Ashland, who died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at home. She was born April 29, 1906 in Eagle Point, Ore., the daughter of Bessie and Harry Carlton. She was raised in Ashland and graduated from Ashland High School in 1924. On June 30, 1934 in Ashland, she married Harvey A. Woods who preceded her in death in 1989. In the late 40s following World War II she was instrumental in restarting the Oak Knoll Golf Course in Ashland. She enjoyed golf and was a live master in bridge. She was a member of Chapter AC P.E.O. Surviving are: three sons, Harvey Woods of Medford, Marvin Woods of Ashland and David Woods of Folsom, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to the P.E.O. Lino Castagnola The graveside service for Lino Castagnola will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2003, at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland. The memorial service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Ashland. Officiating will be Pastor Tony Schultz of Grace Lutheran Church. Mr. Castagnola, 91, of Ashland, died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at the Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland. He was born January 18, 1912 in Santa Barbara, Calif., the son of Battista and Angelina Castagnola. On March 20, 1962 in Yuma, Ariz., he married the former Helga Redien who preceded him in death. He retired from the George V. Castagnola Seafoods Company in Santa Barbara, Calif. in 1977 and moved to Ashland in 1988. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Ashland. Summerhays A private family graveside service has been held for Anne B. Summerhays, 93, of Medford, formerly Ashland, who died March 4, 2003, at the Three Fountains Nursing Home, Medford. She was born January 5, 1910 in Spanish Fork, Utah, the daughter of Harriett and Christian Bjarnason. In 1929 at Salt Lake City, Utah, she married Joel J. Summerhays who preceded her in death in 1969. She worked as a librarian in Fresno, Calif. and retired in 1969. She moved to Ashland in 1976. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross Blood Bank for 30 years and helped as a volunteer building the hospice wing at the Ashland Community Hospital. Mrs. Summerhays enjoyed card playing and spending time with family. Surviving are: one sister, Leona Guddal of Alameda, Calif.; one grandson John Summerhays of Medford; one granddaughter Kimberly Summerhays-Morgan of Eugene, Ore.; and three great grandchildren, Michelle, Jeffery and Hannah.
