--> --> A letter to the President I mailed the following letter over my signature to the President of the United States, with a copy to the Vice President, the Chief of Staff at the White House, all 14 cabinet members, as well as the Senate and House Majority and Minority leaders. "Dear Mr. President, In the aftermath of last Tuesday's terrible happenings, I would like to share my thoughts with you, as from day to day I live in extreme anguish that you may use the mighty military of our great nation in order to respond to these dastardly acts. Acts which, at best, represent no more than a form of "streetfighting" in the delicate world of international relations. Yes, we may very well win, but what lies beyond that? I believe in the long run it will accomplish no more than just that, however, it will not further the prospect of a just peace all nation can accept, or develop a greater understanding among the world of nations of the very difficult role our nation is playing, and that we sincerely want to do what is best. I hope you will rise above this streetfighting mentality and handle this matter in a statesmanlike manner, by not giving in to the paranoia and sense of outrage which is presently enveloping our nation, and instead pursue avenues which will open up doors that will bring all the peoples of the world closer together. By employing our military might, we will accomplish the opposite." I would like to ask those who are of like mind to do the same, in order to indicate to our government that there is not the solidarity of thinking behind the President, as he claims there is, by elevating this horrible situation to the status of an all-out war.
