"This recruiting class addresses all of our immediate needs and maintains the talent level that I think will keep us in the regional and national mix for years to come," Elliott says. The newest Raiders are: o Shanna Claflin of Grants Pass High. The 5-foot-10 middle blocker earned first-team Southern Oregon Conference all-star status as a senior and set a school match kills record (25). o Jaclyn Hamilton-Smith of Sheldon High in Eugene. The 5-foot-11 outside hitter capped her stellar Irish career as a two-time Midwestern League all-star, including league MVP and second-team Class 4A all-state status as a senior. Under the tutelage of former University of Oregon volleyball coach Cathy Nelson, Hamilton-Smith received first-team all-tournament kudos after leading SHS to a sixth-place 2003 state finish. o Danielle Kent of Glendale High. The 5-foot-7 outside hitter finished as one of the school's most talented all-around athletes by receiving all-star honors in volleyball, basketball and track. Coached by SOU graduate Diana Miller, Kent was the 2003 Southern Cascade League volleyball MVP and a second-team all-state choice. In track, she served as a link on a Class 2A champion 4x100 relay, placed second in the state in the 200 and third in the 100. o Richelle Millsap of Mountain View High in Bend. The 6-foot-1 middle blocker twice received Intermountain Conference all-star honors and was the runner-up for MVP status in 2003. Millsap was the squad's top offensive player as a sophomore and senior. o Katie Pluchos of Lincoln High in Portland. The 5-foot-9 all-around player was named Portland Interscholastic League MVP after leading the Cardinals to a 2003 conference championship. The four-year PIL all-star played on the Nike elite club team throughout high school and earned second-team Class 4A all-state distinction as a senior. o Whitney Riehl of Franklin High in Portland. The 5-foot-2 defensive specialist and perennial honor student finished as a three-year PIL all-star and was the MVP of state playoff-qualifying teams in 2002 and '03. In addition to sophomore Boise State University transfer and former Lakeview High standout Jessica Childress, who committed to the Raider program on March 11, the six freshmen join eight returning letterwinners off last year's 24-8 Cascade Conference and NAIA Region I championship team.
