Lecture offered on 'Working without subject' Painter and professor Keith Boyle will present a lecture entitled "Working without subject" from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 11 at the Aalta Gallery at 552 A Street. The lecture will cover the development of Boyle's paintings between 1975 and 1985. He will address issues such as staying focused on individuality in a world of heavy media influence and he'll share how he has maintained his own artistic individuality during years of turmoil and various trends in the art world, including those that occurred during the emergence of minimalism, photo realism and pop art. Born in Defiance, Ohio in 1930, Keith Boyle taught painting at Stanford University for 28 years, retiring in 1987. His work includes both representational and abstract work. He has exhibited widely in the past and his work can be found in the collections of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Oakland Museum, the San Jose Museum of Art, the National Fine Arts Collection in Washington D.C. and locally in the Schneider Museum of Art. During the month of January, the Aalta Gallery is presenting an exhibit of Boyle's painting produced between the late 1970s and mid-1980s. This body of work includes many very large paintings including the spectacular 7' by 15' painting "Triptych #3".
