Senior forward Corey Costantino scored a team-high 13 points to lead four Grizzlies in double figures, as Ashland (13-5, 5-3 SOC) took a two-game lead over fifth-place North Medford and stayed one game behind third-place Grants Pass in the league standings. North fell 80-42 to South Medford. "We've never played well at Crater since I've been around. I don't know what it is," Ashland coach Rick Cornelius said. "I'm not happy with last night's game, but I'm not happy with every game, there are just some games that require a lot of tenacity and you just have to grind it out. That was one of those grind-it-out games." Ashland trailed 11-5 after one quarter, but outscored the Comets 20-12 in the second to seize the momentum. Costantino and junior forward Josh Cornelius combined for 12 of the Grizzlies' 17 points in the fourth quarter, when Ashland pulled away in the closing minutes. "They're effective because they don't rely on two or three kids to score every night," Crater coach Matt Meunier said. "They have so many weapons we couldn't guard them all." Ashland senior forward Jeff Skinner added 11 points, while Josh Cornelius and Josh McDermott added 10 apiece. Sophomore post James Oshel led Crater (3-15, 1-7) with 15 points and nine rebounds before fouling out. He helped the Comets outrebound Ashland 38-35. The Grizzlies' run at a possible playoff berth, which would be their first since 1992, continues Friday night at home against last-place Eagle Point (5-13, 0-8).
