Two of the Rogue Valley’s newest residents, Cameron Ray and Deborah Jones, his mother, are survivors. They woke Nov. 9 in Paradise, California, with family urgently calling and texting about a fast-approaching fire, one they should flee pronto. They did, but it was a nightmare and, stuck in black-as-night smoke and surrounded by wind-whipped blazes, they almost didn’t make it. They’d been evacuated many times before and it hadn’t been that serious — and in any case,

At its June 5 meeting , the council approved an increase to a certain class of hangers to $.2987 per square foot. They voted to reduce that to $.25 per square foot, about 16 percent less. The hangers in question were built by

In these times of political and social divisiveness, we want peace. We want political peace, we want social peace, we want personal peace. When we recognize, at the core of all of that, that we want spiritual peace, we might bring our restlessness to become avid seekers, striving to quiet our unruly thoughts, desires and passions. Always striving, always seeking for something that is idealized in the future, never here and now. Or maybe here and now, but only now and then. In the midst of all th

The 17th annual Abundance Swap is set for 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St. in Ashland. Doors open at 1 p.m. for set up. The Abundance Swap has become a holiday tradition since it came out of Thanksgiving week discussion on JPR’s Jefferson Exchange in 2002. To counter the frantic consumerism of Black Friday’s shopping stampedes, host Jeff Golden looked for an alternative that would preserve the gifting aspect of the holidays. Two weeks later t

The 2018 U.S. Global Change Program’s Fourth National Climate Assessment Report warning of the destruction and economic costs of global warming then stimulated a litany of false claims apparently designed to redirect public attention.
