. a discussion he is said to have had with U.S. Representative
John P. Murtha involving Arab money. [::::::]£urnished the
following information:
He has known Martha since 1974 and he stated that b6the 1,400 employees and himself worked with and for Murtha's b7@
political campaign because Murtha belonged to the Coal Caucus.
rom,being politically acquainted with Martha[i??ff:jhas not had any contact with him. Since[:::i::]is a v
member of the'Government Coal Committee, he went to YE
Washington, D.C;92on January l7, 1980 to discuss the energy issue;_
While he was there, he went to the office of Martha at about noon.
[::::::]was alone with Murtha during the meeting.
During the last five minutes of their conversation,
Martha said, "There's some Arab or Middle East Gil Pe e ! ~ Q91
ligwho want to get?into*thiscountry{Zthey've got all kinds of *1;
money. What can we build invest! in my district?"
The amount of money mentioned by Martha that was available
by the "Oil People" was $40-$50 million.
[::::::]stated that he did not make any inquiries
on Martha's behalf but told Martha that he would think about it.
After he returned home from Washington, D.C., he
recalled knowing of a small coal company that was for sale.
The name of the company was The bceanic Lighting Co. and it was
located in Blairsville, Pennsylvania and employed twelve tofifteen people. [;:;;::]telephoned Murtha on January 18; bf1980 and mentione e company that was for sale. However, he b'c
does not think he mentioned the name of the company to Martha.
Murthas reply was: "Hell, that's too small; we've_got to have
something bigger than that. That_conversation lasted about a
minute and a half. At no time afterwards did Martha mention
the matter, although he saw Murthartwice since then; nor'did
he telephone or comunicate again with.Murtha concerning the1|
