obtained during the course of an applicant-type investigation
conducted by this Bureau concerning Daniel Milton Ladd in
1928 and during the course of a current inquiry.
BIOGRAPHICAL DATA
Birth '
He was born on October 30, 1903, at Fargo, North Dakota,
"the son of Edwin Fremont and Rizpah Sprogle Ladd.
Marital Status
t==ll"Iil°d on June 15, 1925, at Washington, D. C.,
No children were born to this union.
Education b7C
He attended Fargo Public High School, Fargo, North
Dakota, from 1917 to 1921 and was graduated in June, 1921.
He was a student in the College of Arts and Sciences
at George Washington University, Washington, D. C., from
September, 1921, until June, l92h, at which time he withdrew
" of his own accord. He entered the law school of this university
in September, 192k, and was awarded an LL.B. degree in June, 1928.

From 1921 to 1925 he was a clerk in the office of his
father, Edwin Fremont Ladd, who was a Senator from the State of
North Dakota at that time. During this time, for a period of
about one year, he also acted as clerk for the Comittee on
Public Lands, United States Senate, of which his father was the
chairman.
He was employed as a subway car operator on the
United States Senate subway, Washington, D. 0., from 1925 to

II.Hr. Ladd entered on duty in the Federal Bureauof Investigation on November 5, 1928, as a Special Agent in
Grade CAF with salary at the rate of $2900 per annum and
following a period of training he performed investigative
duties in various offices of this Bureau and served in
various executive positions. Mr. Ladd retired effective
at the close of business February 28 195%, at which timehe was occupyin the position of Assistant to the Director,
Grade GS 18, $1 ,8OO per annum. His services were satisfactory
and nothing of a derogatory nature was known concerning his
character or integrity during the period in which he was an
employee of this Bureau.

He was admitted to practice law in the District of
Columbia on October 13, 1928.

Associates, social acquaintances, neighbors,
supervisors, and others interviewed during the 1928 investi-
gation concerning Daniel Milton Ladd highly recommended him
with respect to character loyalty, industry, ambition,associates, general standing and ability.
Mr. Styles Bridges, United States Senator from
New Hampshire, advised on January 27, 1956, that he has known
Mr. Ladd for many years and considers him an outstanding man
of excellent character, reputation, and loyalty to this country
He added that he would not hesitate to recommend Mr. Ladd
most highly for any position of trust and confidence.
Mr. William Langer, United States Senator from
North Dakota, informed on January 30, 1956, that he has known
Mr. Ladd and his family all his life. He stated that Mr. Ladd
comes from one of the most outstanding families in North Dakota
and he would rate Mr. Ladd as an individual of excellent
character, loyalty, associates, and reputation. He emphasized
that he would recomend him for any position of trust and
confidence without any hesitation whatsoever. -

Professional graduate education was at Atlanta Southern Dental College, completing his training at Emory University School
of Dentistry in 1946 Following graduation, he returned to Donaldsonville to resume his Father's practice He was active
in civic Work, Chamber of Commerce, industrial Board, Inc. You name it, Harris did it He was also a Director of the State
Bank of Donaldsonville .
He moved to Deitalb County in 1955 -He is a member oi the Northern District Dental Soeiety, the Fifth District Dental
Society and is a committeeman of the Georgia Society of Denistry for Children He has held offices in the Thomas I-iinman
Dental Clinic.
In civic work he is President of Doraville Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Chamb1eeDoravi1Ie Business
Men's Association, the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, and Atlanta Chamber of Commerce
~ He is a Director of the Chamblee National Bank and President of Seminole Investment Club, and he practices
Dentistry on the side.
He was married to the former Miss Lucy Hoover of Decaiiur County, Georgia on July 30, 1949. They have two children,

pictures of winning teams were carefully placed in bureau drawers, as if they detracted from the things he wanted displayed
What mariner of man is I Edgar Hoover This person who has guided a Bureau for more than four decades without a
breath of scandal and whose Bureau each year has recovered money and property equal to more than ten times their annual

died in an automobile accident
near aniord. Fla . yesterday.
Mr Ladd was en route to
Daytoiia Beach with'his wiie
from their home in Aeneva
when the accident occurred.
Mrs Ladd was iniured in the
crash and is in the Seinmole
Memorial Hospital. Sanford
At the time of his retire-
ment from the Federal Bureau
or Investigation iii 1954, Mr
Ladd, or Mickey, as he was
known to his associates, was
-considered the No 3 man in
the organization He had the
title oi assistant to the direc-_
tor oi the FBI.
