There are being transmitted herewith ten pages ofthe handwriting of subject WESLEY HAMPTON which pages are numberedas specimens 1 - 8b as well as a two-page letter which is unlabeled, the first page ofwhich is dated at Brooklyn, New York, on April 17,1941, and is addressed to "Dear Sister Lhrgie," and the second pageof which begins "possible I w&#39;.L&#39;1.1 drive out" as well as a callingcard of WESLEY HAMPTON which was enclosedwith this lette which inturn was enclosed in an envelope addressed to MARGARET ¥gUI-ILEJINS,
which envelope is also enclosed. -

The above-mentioned handwriting specimens were obtainedfrom HAMPTON while he was being interviewed in connection with
instant case and the letter was in his possession at that time
and is being forwarded inasmuch as it is believed that it presents
a better specimen for comparison since HAMPTON appeared to be tryingto disguise his handwriting while writing the specimens l -¢ 8b.It is requested that the Laboratory compare the handwriting sub- &#39;
mitted herewith the the handwriting appearing on specimens Q1,Q2 a;q1&qQ,3 submitted in co ection with this case formerly entitled,"J0 OGERS; Mrs. mAm mS, Victim; EXTORTION  Bureau File9-7088!" referred to in Isaboratory report #39,&#39;705 dated January 9,

or spelling was indicated to him  any way except as hereinafter
noted. It might also be noted that HAMPTON in preparing these
specimens wrote rather slowly and shakily and that in specimen #1
HAIQZPTON was told to capitalize Europe the second time it was written
and was told to write out the "President" in President ROOSEVELT.
After writing specimens #1 and #2, HAMPTON -was interviewed further
before writing specimens #3a and #3b and it was noted during the
dictation of #38. and #3b that HAMPTON hesitated after writing ~
"Dec." before writing "5"; that he questioned the use of "this"
in the phrase "this blind guides"; that he questioned the meaning
of the word "rornicator"; that he said the letter read like the
speeches of Senators NYE and WHEELER; that he attributed the .
writing of the letter to one ISAAC KIBSER upon hearing the passage
about the engineers in New York City; that when -the end of the
letter mentioning JOHN ROGERS was dictated, he then attributed
the letter to ROGERS. In the dictation of #8b it should be noted
that the passage "but by the engineers in NYC" was dictated exactly
that way, rather than as "New York City." S
It should be noted that subject HAMPTON is apparently
insane to some extent and was committed on April 18, 1941, to
Bellevue Hospital for observation and that he is presently under
$1,000.00 bond in instant case. A
There is also transmitted herewith a copy of the finger-
prints of HAMPTON, and it is requested that the single fingerprint
section compare these with the latent fingerprints available in _
instant case.
It might be noted further that the New York field -
division is now in possession of handwriting specimens and &#39;
fingerprints of JOHN ROGERS of Bellmore, L. I. who formerly was
considered as a suspect in instant case, but in view of HAliPTON&#39;s
apparent responsibility, these handwriting specimens and finger-r
prints are not being forwarded to the Bureau at thepresent time
and are being placed in New York file 9-581.
When the twopage letter and envelope addressed to
MARGARET E. CUHMINS have served their purpose, these items and the
calling card of HAMPTON should be returned to the New York division.
