Distribution of the funds to the Osage Indians differed
somewhat from that of other tribes in that e common pool was nede
of earnings derived from the territory which no divided among
all the Indians of the tribe entitled to allotment rights, which at
no time during the lest decade has totaled more than two thousand.
To illustrate the profligaqy of the majority of these
Indians, they owed at the end of the fiscal year 1921 $691,003 to
various individuals .
It was no uncommon thing from 1920 to 1925 for the grocery
bills of numerous Osage Indians to run from $533 to $1,000 per month.
Stomp dances are still inulgei in several times a year kg
the tribe, st Ihich time members of other Indian tribes are invited
to attend as guests, and gifts are erchonged between the various
tribes and individuals. These stomp dances are the occasion for all
night and all do feasts, during which the members of the Oss;e tribe
as well as visiting tribes, clad in picturesque costumes, dance in a
circular formation to the rythmic beet of the tontom. Under the
stimulating influence of the dance, which begins in s more or lees
orderly fashion, the dancers loqn sex more enthusiastic and "paw the

further feasting, during part of which proessi0nel "=
