signed from the Niagara Frontie&#39;r_
Defense Committee and thus
stripped the organization of all its
city-administration membership;
Dr. Fronczak made known his
decisionto leave the organization
in the following statement: _
Due to the hectic conditions in
these chaotic times, I am severing
my connection with a number of
non-official organizations, includ-
ing the Niagara Frontier Defense
Committee.f .
Caught in the middle of a city-
wide controversy because of its
consideration of _a resolution advo-
cating an immediate declaration of
war against Germany, the Niagara
Frontier Defense Committee today
delayed preparation _ota substitute
resolutionuntil pub"c reaction has
shown what its pficies should be.
McCleIi,&#39; Resigns
Chairman Chauncey J. Hamlin,
who sponsored the pro-war_ resolu-
tion, is convinced that public dis-
cussion of the question was tend-
ing to clarify the situation.
Meanwhile, following action by
Mayor Holling, Fire Commissioner
Castimore and Public Works Com-
missioner Louis A. Harding, Police
Commissioner M cClel Ian an-
nounced his resignation from the
committee. However, Chairman
Hamlin said his organization would
continue as an unofficial body. .
_We are no longer responsible
for the defense of Buffalo, Mr.
Hamlin explained. The official
defense council, appointed by May-,
or Holling, now has charge of that.
It will be our duty to see that the
defense council operates and ac-
tually does something." .
