read by millions, has been telling h.-r readers oi her travels in the SovietUnion. 01 Beptember 13, 1957, eIu- related the details of her visit to the
city oi Zagorsk. iihe described this "holy city, " she called it, and
mentioned the "shrine, " the "monastery, " and the "two churches" there.She told oi the "continuous" religious service carried on there and made
reference to the "unbelievably beautliul voices" of the "older women"

entendeci his remarks to include an article written by Mrs. Eieano Roo_s§jfelt
Washington Daily News of April 16, 1953. Mr. Forrester stated "Mrs. Roosevelt
says that Congressman Francis E. Waiter is narrow and pregudiced because he
has dared to suggest that the Treasury Department revoke the tax exemption of
the Fund for the Republic; also, Mrs. Roosevelt hopes that our Nation will be
ante to go on enjoying the benefits that come irom educational iounciations
performing the kind of work that the Fund for the Republic has been doing.
Mr. Speaker, sometimes it seems when a Congressman lifts his voice in
defense of the taxpayers, or in defense of constitutional government, or speaks
out against unrestricted immigration which has permitted hundreds of COmmtmJ.Bt6
to come into this country, not for the purpose of preserving our country but to
destroy it, that Congressman is immediately condemned as being narrow and
prejudiced. 'i He went on to state "It is noted, Mr. Speaker, that nowhere does
Hrs. Roosevelt attempt to answer charges made by Congressman halter against
the Fun-:i for the Republic, but expresses her hope that we will be able to go on
enjoying the benefits that come from educational foundations able to perform the

- I was taught in senior social studies this year that
she, in patronizing it, was unaware that it was a communist front.
Some believed that she knowingly lhad her name on
communist registers, a member of the communist party. They
said that the reason this fact is not out in the open is that her
supporters would instantly suppress it. "Y

me with a fact or two concerning our problem?

letter to the President thevv appears to be some doubt as to '
the mental stabitity of the writer. The letter to the Bureau
cannot be acknowledged due F" the lack of an address. It is
not believed that we should take any action in forwarding the
