Bureau of Investigation '
gaéhington,
Gentkmen - I have been very much disturbed at charges of
subversion made in public about Danny Kaye and don't know
where to write to find out the truth.
I am a member of the DAR and an ardent GOP but I am also
a great believer in the U.N. as an instrument for keeping
the peace. At a meeting of each of these organizations,
the same person has made charges of the infiltration of
Communism in the U.N. and has openly used Danny Kaye's nam
as being a spy or subversive, implying that your Bureau
has proved it;
If this is not true I should like to have the facts to
refute her statements. I trust you can send me such facts
or tell me where I can learn the truth.
Very truly yours, _

pursuant to Executive Order 10450.
Danny Kaye has toured the Bureau on two occasions, the latterbeing with his wife and daughter on 6-26-56. During this latter tour he briefly
shook hands with the Director.
Other information of a public source nature regarding Danny Kayehas been prepared in the form of a blind memorandum and is attached.
The Bureau has received numerous inquiries regarding the CinemaEducational Guild and its tract entitled "The Reds Are Back in Hollywood! I I"
This tract urges citizens not to patronize "Reds" in the movie and television
industry and lists a number of actors, writers and et cetera whom they label as
"Reds and fellow-travelers, " among whom is the name Danny Kaye. We havenot conducted an investigation of the Cinema Educational Guild; however, our
discreet inquiries reflect it is allegedly an anticommunist group which has been
responsible for the distribution of anticommunist anti-Negro and anti-Semitic
pamphlets. has inthe past attemptedto use the Director s name in furtherance of his programs and it has been necessary
on several occasions to contact him and admonish him to refrain from mentioning
the FBI in any manner. ~
