Hosanna Christian stuns Butte Falls in playoff CENTRAL POINT - The Butte Falls boys basketball team was riding a 10-point lead and was only one half away from making a trip to the Skyline A League playoffs. But the Loggers couldn't finish the deal as Hosanna Christian ended Butte Falls' season Tuesday, 56-50, in a second-place playoff game at Scenic Middle School. Hosanna moves on as the No. 2 seed out of the Skyline A Southern Division. Butte Falls ends the season at 17-7 overall. After trailing 33-23 at the half, Hosanna Christian started working the ball into senior Craig Paulson in the post against a smaller Isaac Stephenson. The mismatch paid dividends as Paulson scored nine of his team-high 14 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Lions on a 19-7, game-ending run. "We had some costly turnovers," said first-year Butte Falls coach Lance Bruce. "It came down to us not taking care of the ball and they did." Senior points guard Jeremy Chronister added 11 points and a steady floor presence for the Lions. "Chronister is a heck of a ball player," said Bruce. "He's probably one of the best point guards in the state at the Class 1A level. It showed down the stretch. "With him, they know how to finish out a game without mistakes and that was the difference." Senior Tyler Hersom produced 18 points and eight rebounds in his final game for Butte Falls. Fellow senior Nick Rodgers had seven steals but struggled from the field with just two points - 11 below his season average.
