Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend September 20, 2005 RCC offers Express Entry for last-minute registration Rogue Community College classes start next week, and officials at the Riverside Campus in downtown Medford want to make sure all interested students have a chance to enroll. School officials have started a new outreach program, Express Entry, for people who have decided at the last minute that they want to give college a try. Anyone can drop by the Express Entry session between 5 and 7 p.m. Wednesday at the campus’ G Building, 117 S. Central Ave., Medford. School staff will be available to enroll people in a variety of general education and elective classes, such as art, history, government, computer science, physical education, theater and human development. The courses don’t require placement testing or previous college experience, so students can sign up and pay Wednesday and be ready to start class on Monday, said Mary Louise Doran, executive dean of the Riverside campus. Information and registration help for community education, English-as-a-second-language and GED classes also will be available. "We have found that lots of adults have things in their lives — jobs and children and things — that can make it difficult to plan ahead," she said. "We want to find a way of serving them better." Express Entry will enable them to take one or two classes to see if community college meets their needs. If it does, they can meet with an adviser, take placement exams and seek financial aid for the winter term, Doran said. "The first step is the hardest when seeking out higher education," she said. "We want to get rid of barriers and get those people on the fence in here."
