The Greenway was closed from the ball fields at U.S. Cellular Community Park to the intersection of East Barnett Road and Highland Drive much of Monday while the truck's cargo was recovered, Oregon Department of Transportation officials said. The crash happened at 11:45 p.m. just south of exit 27 off Interstate 5. The semi was traveling south and was reportedly swerving, Oregon State Police and ODOT both said. "Apparently there were some reports of this truck failing to maintain its lane of travel, i.e. swerving, prior to the crash," ODOT spokesman Gary Leaming said . The commercial truck tore through 20 guard rail panels and about 80 feet of chain-link fence parallel to the Greenway. It crashed into the brush and came to a stop on its side just short of Bear Creek, Leaming said. ODOT, OSP and Medford Fire-Rescue responded to the crash. Driver Gurpreet Singh, 23, was cited for failing to drive within a single lane of travel. OSP's report said Singh was transported to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center "with complaints of pain," but hospital officials said he was not admitted. Providence Medford Medical Center did not immediately return calls to confirm whether Singh had been admitted there. No one else was injured. Southbound I-5 traffic was not affected, Leaming said. The semi was still on the scene Monday morning, with crews from Twedell's Towing removing large rolls of paper from the trailer. Reach reporter Ryan Pfeil at 541-776-4468 or [email protected] .
