Michael Anthony Conte Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Nov. 9, 2014 at 2:00 AM Posted Nov. 9, 2014 at 2:00 AM » Social News Michael Anthony Conte, of Medford, Ore. died peacefully Tuesday, October 28, 2014, surrounded by his three children, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Michael was born May 12, 1952 in San Francisco, Calif. to Tony and Terry Conte, and later served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He married Marie Wilson in 1979, who survives. He was a longtime journeyman plumber by trade, and trained his son, Mario to follow in his footsteps as his apprentice. Together they operated Pipeworks Plumbing Company for over 10 years. Throughout the past twenty years he was an active member of the Medford Elks Lodge, and served as Exalted Ruler in 2012. He was especially fond of children, and with the help of his family and volunteers put on a series of Elks Lodge Christmas parties to brighten the holiday for needy kids. He was also a familiar face around the Elks billiard tables, where he, as well as his dad Tony, dominated the competition during billiard tournaments. After his recent retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his many friends at the Elks Lodge, riding motorcycles with friends and family, visiting thrift stores, and playing guitar. The family wishes to thank all those who visited and sent prayers and good wishes to him during his illness. A special thank you for the compassionate care he received from his sister-in-law, Susie, and Jean Nickerson, during his final days. A memorial service will be held at Eagle Point National Cemetery on Friday, November 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Space is limited, but all are welcome. Following the service, those wishing to pay respects and share remembrances are invited to gather in the conference room at the Best Western Horizon Inn, 1154 Barnett Road, Medford, until 6:30 p.m. In rememberance of Michael, please donate toys this Christmas to Toys for Tots.
