This is one of the fictional quotes by mythical characters that grace the cover of Pete Herzog and Dennis Walker's new CD, "Waiting for the Rain." "Dennis has a penchant for making up these quotes," Herzog says. "He's got a creative imagination." "Waiting for the Rain" is a collaboration of rural blues and blues with grooves co-written and produced by songwriters Herzog and Walker, recorded at Mountain View Studios by Bob Pagano and mixed and mastered by Dawwg House Studios by Alan Mirikitana. "All of the songs tell a story," Herzog says. "I think that's one of the biggest attractions of the album, but the best thing was working with Dennis. This was an exciting project for him because it allowed him to write in his own voice, rather than work on lyrics for other people."  Walker is a three-time Grammy winner for songwriting and producing. He wrote and produced Robert Cray's hits "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" and "Right Next Door," and he produced records for such artists as B.B. King, Bettye Lavette, Frankie Lee, Maria Muldaur and Phillip Fankhauser. He began his career playing bass with Phillip Walker in 1971. He went on to play and record with bluesmen such as Percy Mayfield, Lowell Fulson, Otish Rush and Buddy Guy. With a talent for bringing out the best in artists, he's written more than 200 songs.   Herzog has two earlier albums to his credit: "Homestyle," released in 2008, and "Steel Guitar: A Blues Opera" in 2007. He was raised on a remote piece of land in Trail, where he still lives today, and he's always been attracted to roots blues. "There's a couple of songs that I wrote on 'Waiting,' " he says. " 'Hot Today' and 'In the Ground' have that kind pf walking beat rhythm that sounds like you're walking down the road. A lot of blues artists wrote songs using this rhythm because walking was the only way to get around," Herzog says.  Walker reached out to Herzog to see if he would be interested in writing songs together, and over the past year, the two have co-written about 40 tunes. "Dennis is quite prolific, and I guess I am too," Herzog says. "He has more of a modern take, and his bass adds an extra dimension to the music. We've become good friends, and I've enjoyed working with someone of his caliber and experience. He knows most in the music industry who are worth knowing." Drummer G.T. Albright makes appearances on most of the album's tracks, along with drummer Pete Wirts on "I Wish Him Luck."  "Waiting for the Rain" will soon be available at www.peteherzogmusic.com. Herzog and Walker will be on hiatus from performing live while Herzog spends three months on the Big Island in Hawaii. "My wife and I get down there every other winter or so," Herzog says. "I've got shows lined up at Big Island Brewhaus in Waimea and  Honoka'a  People's Theatre. I'm sure I'll pick up other shows while I'm there. They love blues in Hawaii. Hawaiian music is all about how beautiful the land is, how beautiful the women are and how good the food is.
