Del Jones, 43, of the 700 block of North Laurel Street, faces charges of first-degree sex abuse, first-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual penetration with a foreign object and two counts of second-degree sex abuse. Indicted July 2, Jones appeared Monday in Jackson County Circuit Court. Jones was arrested June 24, four days after a 19-year-old Ashland woman told managers at The Blue Giraffe Day Spa Salon that Jones had abused her during a massage session. A salon manager called police. It was the first time the woman had visited the spa, investigators said. State prosecutor David Hoppe refused to discuss specifics of the crime. Advertisement Salon managers also have refused comment. If convicted of first-degree sodomy — the most serious charge — Jones would spend a minimum of eight years and four months in prison under Oregon’s mandatory-minimum sentencing law. Jones was released from jail July 1 on $50,000 bail. No trial date has been set in the case. Jones, who was born in England, also was arrested on suspicion of being in the United States illegally. Jones worked at "several upscale spas" in Los Angeles before moving to Ashland, according to The Blue Giraffe’s Web site. The Web site states that Jones lost his vision to retinitis pigmentosa, which affects night vision and peripheral vision. The condition can eventually lead to blindness, according to a Web site provided by the U.S. National Library of Medicine.
